Our LongBarn design was inspired by the tobacco barns of Southern New England, long and slender these barns were constructed as permeable shells for drying leaves. With the ability to open 50% of the wall surface at a time their width allowed breezes to the center of the building and their length was expanded over time to fit the size of the farm’s crop.
This barn borrows the large interior volumetrics, the slender width, the length and the permeable shell to house 4 bedrooms + plenty of multi-purpose space that barns are known for. Sliding screens reinforce the barn typology while shading the south wall from sun and creating privacy as desired on the interior space.
A highly insulated skin, doors + windows + high performance material specifications set this barn apart from its predecessor. The interior finish materials can be pushed to the modern + industrial, or the informal + agrarian and an internal timber frame is an option.
