EDC (EVERYDAY CARRY) + PERSONAL ITEMS
If you’re an EDC nerd - like I am - you’re aware that there are three zones of EDC: primary, secondary and tertiary. Primary is EDC I keep on my person, secondary is within a few feet (+/-) and tertiary relates to distinct use conditions (travel, Jeep, site visits, to name a few). My primary is listed here:
Braun Watch - I replaced the band with a rubberized one.
Bellroy Wallet - the magnetic closure is fidget-friendly
Northwall Multitool / Key - Box opener, prying tool, screwdriver. I use this frequently, it’s tiny and TSA compliant.
Coast PX15R Flashlight - Fits the tactical vibe of the bag and it’s rechargeable. High power, focuses between flood and spot, + clip.
Tombow Click Eraser - for precision erasing
Apple AirTag - cheap insurance to keep track of your bags + valuables.
Vintage H. Chapin & Son #12 Boxwood Folding Ruler
Bellroy Pencil Case - More details on everything in my sketching kit here.
Summer ‘24 Update: I've just started using the Picofire pouch (7.32 x 5.28 x 1.3 inches) by Roaring Fire (shown below) to organize my tier 1 + 2 EDC items. The structured compartments and elastic bands ensure that everything has a designated spot, making it easy to locate what I need quickly. Its compact and durable design is ideal for travel and daily use, and keeps my EDC protected and accessible. Its portability allows me to grab everything together and bring the essentials from the studio to the car and back home. The clamshell design lays flat on the desk and when closed there’s a reinforced loop to clip it inside my bag. For air travel, it’s easy to grab the kit and tuck it in the seat pocket for easy access. I’m still looking for a slim battery bank to add to it and will continue to swap items in and out through the summer.
Field Notes Pitch Black Notebook (dot grid)
Baby Banter by Civivi - reversible pocket clip, this is a fun little flipper that works for most everyday uses. A 2.75” blade means you can legally carry it almost anywhere.
Lens Cloth
Charging Cables
Face Wipes - Put on a fresh face for your next meeting with these.
Floss picks
Apple AirTag - I keep these in nearly all pouches/bags I carry.
300MB/S SD Card - 128GB is the minimum I now carry given my current camera. More on my entire photography kit here.
#5 S/STL Forceps
Arkfeld UV by Olight (flat flashlight, with UV + strobe) - one of my favorite things is the dual clip, you can clip it to a hat for low light inspections on job sites.
Lip balm + SPF 15
Mentioned, some not pictured:
TRACE Sketchbook + BLANK Sketchbook - created by 30X40 Design Workshop, LLC
Tech Pouch - smart design to keep your accessories organized. There are many knock-offs, the PD one is the best I’ve tested.
Solar Battery Bank - huge capacity (10 charges for iPhone, 3.6 for iPad Pro), 4 inputs, 3 outputs, + flashlight

I’m a sucker for beautifully designed, rugged storage. I picked up these Yeti LoadOut GoBoxes on sale and always keep my eye out for more. They have divided storage inside, a zippered ‘pack-attic’ and a removable caddy tray. They hold an incredible amount of gear, they’re waterproof and can be used for mobile seating, even a step stool. The yellow Pelican case carries all my first aid gear and the rack storage tray + cargo net is from Hooke Road (their logo isn’t as nice as Yeti’s so I stickered over it). We do take the Jeep off-road and over-sand so having our gear secured and emergency medical gear along is important.
