Some of the things that are inspiring my work right now in the studio: tools, books, YouTube channels, podcasts and more.
We always travel in late June when school let’s out and our destination usually oscillates between cities and national parks. Having visited the Zion, Bryce and the Grand Canyon last year this year we chose Los Angeles for a dose of much needed vitamin D, and more art, architecture, and food than we had anticipated. The Getty Center visit was an architectural highlight of our stay. Curiously, I found the gardens, the spatial connections between inside and out and the use of texture to be the clear standouts in this - at times - overwhelming monumental architectural feast. It also became clear to me how the modern housing movement found purchase here, the climate demanded it.
Books I’m reading
I’ve given myself permission to dip in and out of books now. If I tire of one or the messaging gets repetitive, I simply move on. Rather than be held hostage by my list, this has been a totally liberating practice.
