now

Some of the things that are inspiring my work right now in the studio: tools, books, YouTube channels, podcasts and more.

Modern Lighthouse - 30X40 Design Workshop / Midjourney

Midjourney Experiments - Toothpick Temple

Midjourney Experiments - Modern Silo

Midjourney Experiments - Moss Temple

Midjourney Experiments - Oak Kitchen Workshop

How will AI affect architects? It’s a question I’m asking myself lately. I’ve been using ChatGPT for a few months now to save time in the studio, but have just stumbled upon Midjourney and I’m gobsmacked. Midjourney is an AI-based text to image generator that will both astound and confound you. Prompt design is everything. I’ll be sharing my learnings on the YouTube channel soon.

READING

Who Not How by Dan Sullivan + Benjamin Hardy. An incredible manifesto and personal unlock for me regarding the power of hiring a team. This is ‘just-in-time-learning’ for me as I’m working to hire a team.

The Creative Act: A Way of Being by Rick Rubin. Meditations on the creative process from an all-time favorite music maker. Narrated by Rick, it’s as calming as it is inspiring.

LISTENING

Harvest** by Empire State Bastard. Side project between: Dave Lombardo (Slayer), Simon Neil (Biffy Clyro), Mike Vennart (Oceansize), and Naomi Macleod (Bitch Falcon). Album is promised “soon,” for now this video includes all songs written to date.

**May result in hearing loss + room destruction.

Gas Light by Bitch Falcon. What I love about the hypertext of discovering new music is that the above led me to check out the bassist’s main band. Gritty, grungy, raw, imperfect, with incredible hooks and big vocals.

LEARNING

ChatGPT. I’m saving so much time using this AI tool to respond to email, draft outlines, edit my work. Notion has an integrated beta tool I’ve been testing as well. Video coming soon on all the uses for Architects + Designers.
